“In Gleeson Paulino’s dreamlike series, water serves as an immersive reconnection to his native Brazil, acting as a catalyst of renewal, forgiveness, encounter, and play”. Lens Culture

Gleeson Paulino was born in Eldorado, a city of sixteen thousand inhabitants in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in 1988, and grew up in Campo Grande.

He left for Vienna at the age of 17 via a music study program for young people from his religious community. On this trip he saw the opportunity to go to London, where he came to develop creatively more fully, starting his career as a photographer, which led him to return to Brazil years later. In 2021, I-D Vice magazine named him one of the leading Brazilian photographers to follow.

The artist’s production had its first public exhibitions in 2019, when he was invited to exhibit at SP-Foto by the Lamb London Gallery, and at the Salon des Beaux Arts in Paris. For images from his series Baptism, presented in his first solo exhibition, held in 2022 in São Paulo, Gleeson received awards in Italy (Cortona on the Move Award), Slovenia (Kranj Photo Festival) and Holland (LensCulture 2022, as critics’ choice), as well as two gold medals at the Salon des Beaux Arts de Paris 2022.
